OnBoard
Redesigning OnBoard's meeting approval pages to provide users with more information, improve the visualization of data, and streamline the accessibility of key features.

Duration: Fall 2023
My Role: UX Research, Sketching, UI Design
Team: 4 undergrad + 1 grad UX students
Context
OnBoard is a B2B intelligent board management software that offers tools for effective communication, organization, and decision-making. Key actions that board members can make include: 1) approvals, 2) surveys, and 3) e-signatures.
Problem Space
Approvals are a type of action taken by board members to vote on proposals, budgets, loans, nominations, and other high-impact decisions important to the organization. Current users are confused by the different approval states, prompting a need for enhanced clarity within OnBoard’s approval feature.
Our Guiding Questions
How might we understand how OnBoard's users currently interact with the approvals feature?
How might we address current pain points through a redesign of the approvals pages?
How might we ensure that our re-design has improved the user experience?
Heuristic Evaluation
The goal of this activity was to find and assess usability issues, evaluate task efficiency, and highlight areas for improvement in clarity and consistency. We broke down and analyzed OnBoard's approval pages using Nielson's 10 usability heuristics, identifying violations and gaining valuable insights to enhance the user experience.
Competitive Review
Our team analyzed OnBoard's top competitors to take a closer look at how approvals are managed across different platforms. Our process for the analysis involved identifying the strengths and weaknesses of each company’s design system for approvals. We formed our comparison criteria by referencing findings from our heuristic analysis.
Sketching
To improve the usability of StoryJam and its interface, our team analyzed the site using Nielson's Ten Usability Heuristics. The goal was to identify areas for improvement and patterns that could enhance the user experience.
Reflection
This was my very first project with Purdue's Experience Studio, and it proved to be an eye-opening introduction to user experience (UX) methodologies and design tools. The project was centered around user interface (UI) design, which challenged me to refine my skills with wireframing and prototyping in Figma. I gained valuable experience in creating and maintaining design libraries, something I've found extremely useful for other projects. I'm grateful to Purdue, Ford, and my teammates for providing me with the opportunity to work on such a fantastic project and for building a strong foundation for my future work.
