Knowsy
Updating physical components for the board game Knowsy and prototyping a mobile adaptation to relaunch it for modern audiences.
Project Info
Duration: Fall 2024
My Role: Research, Sketching, Prototyping
Team: 5 undergrad UX students
Context
Initially released in 2014, Knowsy is a board game that offers a fun and engaging way of fostering empathy and community-building. The board game is manufactured by TheGameCrafter. The game was later adapted into an iPad app.
Problem Space
Over the years, Knowsy has faced several hurdles: its assets no longer fit its manufacturer’s standards, some terminology on its topic cards have become outdated, and its mobile app was discontinued. Our team was tasked with revamping Knowsy: our goals were to update the physical board game’s graphic design and terminology and design a new and improved mobile app experience.
Background Research
While examining TheGameCrafter, we found that the game was currently available for purchase. We shared this information with our sponsor, who informed us that TheGameCrafter had recently updated its manufacturing process and was now compatible with Knowsy’s old files. Our sponsor proceeded to buy the game and found that the only component still incompatible was the game’s box.
